It would eliminate the need for you to hit unlock. you must hold both button inside the car and on the phobe for it to go through. It won’t activate the power lift gate unless you hold is for a second. I have only had my CX50 for the past few days. On two occasions the button inside the car would not open the tailgate.. Zbfwai

The hatch is simply always locked. It is unlocked and opened in the single activity of pressing the rectangular button in back. There is no other unlock or open mechanism for the hatch using the key fob, or door buttons, or within the car.
