My husband chose a different stone other than diamond because he felt like diamonds were a rip off. Aquamarine does rate lower (number 8?) on the mohs scale but I wore it every day for years and it never scratched.When I designed my engagement ring with the jeweller, this was suggested to me since I’m a seamstress. The jeweller himself said that prongs/claws can weaken over time and even fully break off if you keep having to bend them back into shape. My ring doesn’t catch on anything or get stuff stuck in it and it’s awesome..
